Building a Mayor’s Coalition for Jazz Day Arizona
Expanding Leadership for the 15th Annual International Jazz Day Celebration
For the past four years, Mayor Cory Woods has been a valued supporter of Doc Jones and the International Jazz Day AZ Foundation, playing a key role in helping bring awareness to the power of jazz to unite communities across Arizona.
Mayor Woods’ leadership—through official proclamations, public recognition, and city-level engagement—has helped legitimize and uplift International Jazz Day as a meaningful cultural event that celebrates Arizona’s diverse heritage and artistic excellence.
As we prepare for the 15th Annual International Jazz Day Celebration, his continued involvement is more critical than ever. We are calling on Mayor Woods to help lead the formation of a statewide Mayor’s Jazz Day Coalition—a powerful alliance of Arizona mayors committed to:
-
Promoting April 30th as International Jazz Day in their respective cities
-
Collaborating on joint proclamations and awareness campaigns
-
Supporting arts programming, youth engagement, and tourism through jazz
-
Positioning Arizona as a national and international destination for jazz culture
With Scottsdale and Phoenix at the center, and with the backing of influential leaders like Mayor Cory Woods, this coalition will bring statewide momentum to a global celebration—and help fulfill our mission of making Arizona the official host of UNESCO & Herbie Hancock’s International Jazz Day in 2028.
